Fort Bragg, NC — Heat-related injuries affected 43 soldiers who were participating in a ruck march Friday morning, September 23, 2011, reported the FayObserver.com.

The soldiers were participating in the training exercise to earn the Army’s Expert Field Medical Badge, when the heat affected them.

Twenty-five soldiers were treated for their heat-related injuries on-site, while 18 others were transported to Womack Army Medical Center. One person was reportedly admitted into the intensive care unit at the hospital.

The two-week program at Fort Bragg involves written tests, obstacle courses and work in battlefield-like conditions. About 200 medics took part in the program and only 74 remained as of Thursday.

Less than 3 percent of the Army’s Medical Department soldiers achieve the Expert Field Medical Badge.
