CFO Patronis Statement on Passage of DFS Agency Bill from House Commerce Committee

2/17/2022

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Today, Florida Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis issued the following statement on the House Commerce Committee’s favorable hearing of House Bill 959, Department of Financial Services, sponsored by Representative LaMarca. House Bill 959 will require insurance agencies to proactively disclose to policyholders that they’re closing their business; will force public adjusters to notify consumers if they want to capture additional living expenses; and reduces workers’ comp penalties for small businesses. The bill moves next to the House Floor.

CFO Jimmy Patronis said, “Every year as CFO, we’ve worked hard to protect consumers, crack down on fraud, and help our small businesses. This year’s agency package aims to protect policyholders by ensuring insurance agencies and public adjusters are up front and transparent with consumers. Additionally, this package supports small businesses by reducing workers’ comp penalties. Special thank you to Representative LaMarca for sponsoring our agency package in the House and to Senator Boyd for being the Senate sponsor. I look forward to continuing to work with you both to make sure this good bill gets across the finish line.”
