Important Children Information: Tanta Pharmaceuticals Inc. Recalls Junior and Children’s Strength Acetaminophen Tablets
June 7, 2011
For immediate release
OTTAWA - Health Canada is advising Canadians that Tanta Pharmaceuticals Inc. is conducting a voluntary recall of all lots of Junior Strength Acetaminophen Tablets 160 mg and Children's Strength Acetaminophen Tablets 80 mg (see chart below).
The products are being recalled due to reports that the Child Resistant Packaging is faulty. As such, the child safety mechanism on some of the caps may not be locking properly and caps may open even in the locked position. This presents a risk to children who are able to open the bottle and ingest the product.
Tanta Pharmaceuticals is requesting that retailers immediately stop sale of this product and return their products to the company. These products can be found at retail locations, including Loblaws, Shoppers Drug Mart and Preferred Pharmacy. It's also important to note that they may be found at other retail locations across Canada.
Health Canada is monitoring the recall by Tanta Pharmaceuticals Inc. Should new information be identified, Health Canada will continue to provide an update to Canadians.
Health Canada reminds Canadians who have concerns about these products to consult with their health care practitioner. Canadians or media wishing more information on this recall may contact Tanta Pharmaceuticals at 1-905-430-8440.
