Delray Beach, FL—A Boca Raton man suffered fatal injuries when his car slammed into a Tri-Rail (TRCX) train Monday morning, August 16, 2010. The deadly collision occurred on the CSX track at Linton Boulevard in Delray Beach, as reported by the Palm Beach Post.

According to Delray Beach Police Department spokesperson Jeffrey Messer, 78-year-old Juan Roldan was driving his maroon Honda Sedan eastbound when it went under or through the railroad crossing arms for unknown reasons.

Roldan’s vehicle subsequently crashed into the Tri-Rail P619 commuter train. He was sadly pronounced dead after the 9:30 a.m. car-train collision. While approximately 70 passengers were occupying the locomotive at the time, no injuries were reported aboard the Tri-Rail train.

The southbound train was reportedly en route to Miami International Airport (MIA) from Mangonia Park at the time. The train continued to the Boca Raton station where passengers were transferred onto another train so they could continue their commute.

Messer noted the railroad crossing gates appeared to be functioning properly at the time. Tri-Rail spokeswoman Bonnie Arnold alleged the accident marked the first fatal collision in three or four years. She also stated she could not remember any other highway-rail accidents occurring at the Linton Boulevard crossing.

Investigations are expected to be underway.
