Fort Worth Police Pursuit: Kidnapping Suspect Slams Head-On Into Cop Car

Fort Worth, TX—A head-on collision involving a Fort Worth police officer and a kidnapping suspect who was fleeing from officers, left the officer critically injured on U.S. Highway 287. The suspect was driving the wrong way on the highway when it slammed head-on into the officer’s squad car on Saturday, August 14, 2010, as reported by the Dallas Morning News.
The kidnapping suspect, Stanley Robertson, 42, of College Station, allegedly kidnapped his ex-girlfriend’s mother from a College Station Walmart on Friday; where he stabbed her to death before dumping her body behind a store on Camp Bowie Boulevard in Fort Worth.
Fort Worth police officers were reportedly on the lookout for Robertson following the kidnapping of 59-year-old Annie Toliver. At around 1:40 a.m., Robertson’s vehicle was spotted by authorities on West Lancaster Avenue, who than began following him. Robertson fled on Highway 287 in East Fort Worth, when he suddenly made a U-turn on the highway near Rosedale Street. A police helicopter alerted police that the suspect was driving northbound in the southbound lanes. One of the pursuing officers pulled over onto the shoulder of the highway in attempt to avoid Robertson, but the suspect drove his vehicle directly head-on into the officer’s squad car. The crash caused the officer’s car to catch fire, but rescue teams managed to pull the officer from the wreckage.
The officer and the suspect were rushed to a Fort Worth Hospital in critical condition.
About four hours following the wreck, at around 5 a.m., Toliver’s body was found behind a building not far from where the pursuit began. Officials say it appears that Toliver was stabbed, and they are unsure how long she had been dead.
College Station officers stated that Robertson went inside the Walmart store with Toliver’s son, when Robertson said he needed to go back to the car to get something he had forgotten. Apparently when Robertson returned to the car, he took off with Toliver.
A full investigation into the kidnapping and crash is underway.
