Automotive Industry: LoJack Launches Salt Lake City Service

April 23, 2010 (FinancialWire) — LoJack Corp. (NASDAQ: LOJN), a provider of tracking and recovery systems, said that its Stolen Vehicle Recovery System is now available to consumers in the greater Salt Lake City area.

LoJack said that its system will be used by local and regional law enforcement agencies in the Salt Lake City area, including the Salt Lake City Police Department, Utah Highway Patrol and the Utah Motor Vehicle Enforcement Division.

The company said it provided its Police Tracking Computers to these agencies at no cost.  The PTCs are installed in police vehicles and are used to find and recover stolen vehicles equipped with the LoJack system.

The LoJack Stolen system, which is integrated with law enforcement, includes a small wireless radio frequency transceiver that is hidden in a vehicle in one of more than 20 possible locations.  Once the vehicle is reported stolen to the police, the vehicle's identification number is matched to the LoJack system's registration number by state law enforcement computers.  After the match, the LoJack system is automatically activated by police, triggering a small, hidden radio transceiver in the vehicle to emit a silent, continuous signal.

Law enforcement vehicles and aircraft equipped with LoJack Police Tracking Computers follow these signals, which lead to the precise location of the stolen vehicle.

Massachusetts-based LoJack offers systems for a range of mobile assets including cars, construction equipment and motorcycles.  LoJack's Stolen Vehicle Recovery System operates in 28 states and the District of Columbia, and in more than 30 countries throughout North America, South America, Europe, Africa and Asia.
