Ursula Le Guin Leads Pack of Authors Opposing Google Book Settlement
January 26, 2010 /EIN PRESSWIRE/ Iconic science fiction author Ursula Le Guin and 365 other authors will petition a judge to exempt the US from the agreement that allows Google to scan and sell books online.
Last year, Google reached a settlement with the Authors Guild and the Association of American Publishers in which Google agreed to pay $125 million to resolve outstanding copyright claims on books published in Australia, the UK, Canada and the US.
Le Guin states as the basis of her objection that the Authors Guild "cannot and does not speak for all American writers." This complaint comes as a Thursday deadline looms for authors and publishers to lodge objections in court against the settlement.
