Ten Illinois Homes To Be Rid Of Asbestos Piping

A village located in Illinois just received word that a number of its houses will be getting new piping in order to replace old asbestos piping. Ten homes located on West Webster Street in West City, Illinois are using water lines that are hooked to four inch asbestos lines. Officials feel that the asbestos pipes should be replaced in order to avoid future exposure issues and the potential development of asbestos cancer.

Although undisturbed asbestos poses little threat of inhaling dangerous asbestos fibers it is possible for materials to be disturbed and released into the air.

When individuals are exposed to such materials it may lead to the development of any one of a number of dangerous diseases which include but are not limited to mesothelioma, asbestosis, and lung cancer. Because the latency period tends to last anywhere from twenty to fifty years with asbestos-related diseases it is very difficult to find effective treatment options for those diagnosed.

According to Dale Watkins who is the utilities trustee in West City the project is expected to cost around $7,000 for both the labor and the materials necessary for the removal. Officials are waiting for a break in weather before beginning the project.
