Outlaw Struggles to Give Up His Wild Ways When He Becomes a Marshal in New Western Novel
In Jeff W. Henderson's Marshal of Broken Pick, a young Texas outlaw turns his life around when he meets a beautiful young woman
SAN MARCOS, TX (MMD Newswire) April 3, 2009 -- Marshal of Broken Pick by native Texan Jeff W. Henderson explores how a rebellious young man's code is challenged when he becomes marshal of a dusty New Mexican town.
Dave MacHenry, the robber that newspapers dub "The Bandana Kid" for the way he leaves bandanas on the scene of his crimes, is about to have a change of heart about his vocation. When he rescues a stagecoach and a beautiful young woman, the woman's grateful father, who is the mayor of Broken Pick, makes MacHenry the marshal. But being marshal is a big responsibility, and as MacHenry finds himself falling for the mayor's daughter and others, he begins to rethink all that his lay-preacher father once told him about what it means to be a good man.
Born and reared in Texas and traveling extensively in New Mexico, Henderson uses his first-hand knowledge of the landscape to give the book authenticity and local color. Like MacHenry, Henderson also had a lay-preacher father, whose sayings and personality infuse the book. Designed to be both a rollicking western and a study of how one man turned his life around for the better, Henderson expects Marshal of Broken Pick will offer a welcome escape from the turmoil going on in the world today.
