LITHUANIA, October 13 - Continuing to support third countries in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government has decided to donate to Tajikistan 60,000 doses of Vaxzevria vaccine manufactured by AstraZeneca.

‘Every time the Lithuanian Government makes a decision to donate vaccines to countries in need, it demonstrates solidarity that is more than words. I believe that only by working together and helping as many people in the world as possible to get vaccinated will we overcome the pandemic faster,’ said Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė.

In addition, EUR 30,000 has been allocated from the Government reserve to the Ministry of Health to cover the transportation costs of the humanitarian aid.

Lithuania has already donated 200,000 doses of Vaxzevria (AstraZeneca) vaccine to Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, and Armenia, and 255,900 doses to Taiwan. Additional 50,000 doses of Moderna vaccine have been donated to Armenia.

Lithuania will continue to contribute to the Team Europe initiative of the EU’s global efforts to manage the pandemic. The EU member states are sharing vaccines with third countries through the COVAX Facility that helps the low- and middle-income countries obtain vaccines, as well as on a bilateral basis through the EU vaccine-sharing mechanism.
