Workshops for professionals seeking employment and toy donations for children in need will also be discussed this week        

ROCKVILLE, Md., Dec. 9, 2021 — The featured guests on this week’s En Sintonía con el Concejo del Condado de Montgomery (In Tune with the Montgomery County Council) will include Gabe Albornoz, president of the Montgomery County Council; Margarita Bohórquez, the interim director for students, families, school services and international admissions office for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS); Clotilde Puértolas, program specialist at Montgomery County Public Libraires (MCPL); Grace Rivera-Oven, co-founder of the Upcounty Consolidation Hub at BlackRock (Upcounty Hub) and Marcus Dixon, official of the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD. The show will air tomorrow at 2 p.m. on Radio America (WILC 900AM).     

The first part of the show will include Council President Albornoz, who was elected unanimously by his Council colleagues on Tuesday as the new Council president. Albornoz, who also serves as chair of the Council’s Health and Human Services Committee, will discuss some of his Council priorities for the upcoming year, including the support that the Council will continue to provide to County residents who continue to struggle financially as a result of the pandemic. He is also focused on building partnerships and providing funding to enhance health care access and end childhood hunger in our community.      

The second part of the show will focus on MCPS’ efforts to enroll unaccompanied minors who continue to arrive in our region as a result of political violence and climate change. Ms. Bohórquez will provide an explanation to listeners about the student enrollment process and the documents that parents or legal guardians must present to enroll their children in school.       

This conversation will be followed by a discussion about some of the available resources MCPL offers individuals seeking employment, including materials provided in Spanish. Ms. Puértolas will provide information on the registration process for residents to participate in these free workshops.     

The Montgomery County Council and Radio America have entered a partnership that provides the Latino community with key information on issues and programs. The partnership also provides a forum for residents to express their views and ask questions. The partnership includes the weekly one-hour show each Friday on the Washington metropolitan area’s most popular Spanish language station.
