Professor John Robert Greene, American Presidential Scholar/Author, Receives Top Service Award at Cazenovia College

The Award Is Not Typically Presented to a Faculty Member, But Greene's Contributions Have Earned Special Board of Trustees Recognition

CAZENOVIA, NEW YORK, USA, April 15, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The longest-serving member of the faculty and a professor described as “the national face of Cazenovia College” has been chosen by its Board of Trustees to receive the College’s 2020 Distinguished Service Award.

Dr. John Robert (“Bob”) Greene has been selected for the honor, which is designed to recognize prominent leaders in the Cazenovia College community who have a responsibility and commitment to improving citizens’ quality of life, announced College President Dr. Ron Chesbrough.

Typically, the award is not intended to recognize a faculty member. However, this year’s selection represents a special case in consideration of the long, consistent, and high level of Dr. Greene’s contributions to the College and the Community, and in academic circles, President Chesbrough said. “This award being presented to a faculty member is an exception; and in this case, you, Dr. Greene, are exceptional,” Chesbrough said in making the announcement.

“In addition to being a dedicated teacher and the longest serving faculty member here, your numerous contributions in your role as director of the Wheler Conference on World Affairs, director of the Washburn Junior Research and Teaching Fellowship Programs, the Paul J. Schupf Chair of History and Humanities, the Alpha Chi Honor Society Advisor, and College Archivist have been extraordinary. You have been the national face of Cazenovia College and exemplify the ideals, goals, and mission of Cazenovia College,” President Chesbrough added.

Dr. Greene, who resides in Chittenango, New York, marked his 40th year of teaching at the College in 2020, having started as a part-time instructor at Cazenovia in September 1979 while also serving as manager of the campus radio station. He became a full-time faculty member in 1984 and was tenured in 1987. He was named Distinguished Faculty Member in 1993, and was awarded the College’s first endowed chair, the Paul J. Schupf Chair in History and Humanities, in 2000. Dr. Greene also served several terms as chair of the Social and Behavioral Sciences Division and is the College archivist.

A leading scholar of the American presidency, Dr. Greene has edited or written 19 books, including works on Dwight D. Eisenhower, Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, and George H. W. Bush. His book on George W. Bush will be released nationwide this fall. He is a sought-after subject matter expert for interviews with national and local print and broadcast media outlets, including his popular appearances over a 17-year run as a regular faculty panelist on WCNY-TV’s “Ivory Tower” political talk show.

Dr. Greene said of receiving the recognition, “I am beyond grateful to the Board of Trustees of Cazenovia College for this recognition. But working with so many selfless colleagues who epitomize the virtues of service, and teaching so many thoughtful and interesting young people is reward enough for a career.”

The award was unable to be presented at last year’s Commencement when the ceremony was cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions. However, this year’s ceremonies are providing recognition for both the Class of 2020 and the Class of 2021 graduates, and Dr. Greene’s award is being presented at the May 22 ceremony for the Class of 2020.
