Homicide: 2600 Block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, Southeast

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Thursday, April 1, 2021, in the 2600 block of Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, Southeast.

 

At approximately 4:22 pm, members of the Seventh District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, members located an adult male, inside a residence, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and EMS responded to the scene and after finding no signs consistent with life, the victim remained on scene until transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. An additional victim, a juvenile female, was located on scene suffering from a graze wound and was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. After members arrived on the scene, a second adult male suffering from a gunshot wound was located at an area hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

 

The decedent has been identified as 18 year-old Michael Benbow, of Southwest, DC.

 

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for each homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
