​Harrisburg, PA – A lane restriction and ramp closure is scheduled for this weekend on northbound Interstate 83 on the John Harris Memorial (South) Bridge spanning the Susquehanna River in the area around Exit 43 (Second Street) in the City of Harrisburg. A contractor plans to make repairs to an expansion dam on the bridge.

Work will be from approximately 7 PM Saturday, December 19, to 10 AM Sunday, December 20.

Work first will be performed on the two left lanes, during which time all traffic will be shifted to the right lane. The ramp to Second Street will remain open during this phase of the work.

After work on the left two lanes is complete, traffic will be shifted to those lanes and the right lane and ramp lane will be closed until the work is completed Sunday morning. The ramp will be closed during this last phase of the work. Motorists should seek alternate routes.

Travelers are reminded to be alert for these operations, to obey work zone signs, and to use caution when driving through work zones for their safety, as well as for the safety of the road crews.

Work on this project will be in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and state Department of Health guidance as well as a project-specific COVID-19 safety plan, which will include protocols for social distancing, use of face coverings, personal and job-site cleaning protocols, management of entries to the jobsite, and relevant training.
