Northbound Montlake Blvd in Seattle closing July 25-26 weekend

Steve Peer, communications, 425-301-2023

Westbound SR 520 off-ramp to UW closed; southbound Montlake reduced to one lane

SEATTLE – Late Friday night, July 24, to early Monday morning July 27, crews will close northbound Montlake Boulevard over State Route 520, reduce the southbound lanes to one, and shut down the westbound SR 520 off-ramp to the University of Washington. The weekend closure is necessary to move a waterline under Montlake Boulevard.

About 110,000 vehicles use this part of Montlake Boulevard in a typical weekend. Drivers headed to the University District from the Eastside, the Montlake neighborhood, or Capitol Hill, should plan accordingly by taking alternate routes, delaying trips or using light rail. Southbound drivers should expect delays.

Closure details

From 10 p.m. Friday, July 24, to 6 a.m. Monday, July 27, crews will close:

  • Northbound Montlake Boulevard in Seattle between East Lake Washington Boulevard and East Hamlin Street.
  • The westbound SR 520 off-ramp to Montlake Boulevard.
  • All but one lane of southbound Montlake Boulevard

Drivers using the eastbound SR 520 ramp to Montlake Boulevard will not be able to travel northbound on Montlake Boulevard toward University of Washington.

The westbound SR 520 off-ramp to Lake Washington Boulevard will remain open. Bicyclists and pedestrians will still be able to ride north and south through the area, but will need to share a sidewalk on the west side of Montlake Boulevard.

This work is part of the $455 million SR 520 Montlake Project that constructs new eastbound lanes between Montlake Boulevard and the new floating bridge, a new Montlake community-connecting lid and transit hub, an improved Montlake Boulevard interchange, and a bike and pedestrian bridge over SR 520.
