Pavement repairs and street crossing improvements on SR 6 in Lewis County begins this week

LEWIS – The highway serving travelers between Interstate 5 and Pe Ell on State Route 6 will soon have a smoother surface as work on SR 6 in Lewis County begins this week.  

On Tuesday, July 28, the Washington State Department of Transportation’s contactor, C.A. Carey Corporation, will begin pavement repairs on a 19-mile stretch of highway as part of the SR 6 – Chehalis River Bridge to I-5 pavement rehab project.

“Folks who travel along this stretch are all too familiar with the cracks, ruts and potholes on the roadway,” said WSDOT Project Engineer Colin Newell. “Pavement repairs extend the useful life of the highway and prevents additional deterioration that could lead to costly emergency repairs and closures.”   

Crews will improve sidewalk curb ramps at targeted locations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act throughout the work zone. Crews will also repave the bridge deck on the Chehalis River Bridge, just west of I-5.

The end result In addition to providing a smoother ride, repairing this section of SR 6 keeps people, goods and services moving through Lewis County.

Construction details WSDOT’s contractor, C.A. Carey Corporation, is scheduled to work daily, Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • During pavement repairs, travelers should expect daytime single-lane closures with alternating traffic and delays of up to 20 minutes through the work zone.
  • Chehalis River Bridge paving is scheduled nightly, Monday through Thursday, from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., and on Friday’s from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m., Travelers near the bridge will follow a signed detour during nighttime operations.

This $2.2 million dollar project is scheduled for completion later this year.
