Bailee

Bailee, a Springer Spaniel, was treated for Intervertebral Disc Disease with VetStem Cell Therapy by Dr. Susan Burkhart of Animal Medical Center of Ontario.

POWAY, CALIFORNIA, US, July 28, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Bailee, an English Springer Spaniel, was approximately fourteen years old when he injured his neck. He jumped off a deck that was about four feet off the ground and yelped in pain. His owner took him to a veterinarian who prescribed pain medications. Unfortunately for Bailee, the medications made him very lethargic and did not help his pain. Bailee was diagnosed with Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD).

IVDD is a condition in which one or several intervertebral discs in the spine bulge, resulting in pressure on the spinal cord. This pressure may result in extreme pain and possibly loss of limb function. IVDD can be a result of chronic disc degeneration or from an acute injury. Conservative treatment with pain medications and anti-inflammatories may help patients who have a gradual onset of symptoms or whose symptoms are mild. In severe cases or when there are repeated episodes, surgery may be recommended.

Due to the severity of his symptoms and his lack of response to conservative management with pain medications, Bailee’s owner took him to a second veterinarian who recommended treatment with VetStem Cell Therapy. Dr. Susan Burkhart of Animal Medical Center of Ontario collected fat from Bailee’s side in a minimally invasive anesthetic procedure. The fat was aseptically packaged and shipped to the VetStem laboratory in Poway, California. Once received, VetStem lab technicians processed the fat to extract and concentrate Bailee’s stem and regenerative cells. One injectable stem cell dose was shipped back to Dr. Burkhart and Bailee received an intravenous injection of his own stem cells approximately 48 hours after the initial fat collection.

Within one week after his stem cell injection, Bailee’s owner reported that she noticed a huge difference. She stated, “He was once again smiling, and out of pain. It has been 2.5 years since then, and Bailee is one happy pup, once again, and able to live many more years pain free. I am so grateful and would do again for any of my pets.”

Stem cells are regenerative cells that can differentiate into many tissue types, reduce pain and inflammation, help to restore range of motion, and stimulate regeneration of tendon, ligament and joint tissues.
