Public meeting to be held on possible renaming of Van Meter State Park

JEFFERSON CITY, MO, DEC. 7, 2018 – Missouri State Parks will hold a public meeting from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Mon., Dec. 10, at the Missouri’s American Indian Cultural Center within Van Meter State Park to discuss the proposed renaming of the park. The proposed name change is being considered to highlight the contribution of Annie and Abel Van Meter, the property owners who donated the original tract of land to the state in 1932. Park staff will be on hand to provide information, and the public is invited to share comments and ask questions at the meeting.
Van Meter State Park in Saline County features hiking trails, a lake and Missouri’s American Indian Cultural Center, which provides information on the park and the nine tribes that lived in Missouri in the early 19th century. Van Meter State Park is located at 32146 N. Highway 122 in Miami. For more information about the meeting, call the park at 660-886-7537.
