Head of State assesses "crisis" of water and grazing in Cunene

Luanda, ANGOLA, May 3 - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, is travelling this Friday to the locality of Ombala Yo Mungo, Ombadja Municipality, in the southern Cunene Province, which is being hit by a drought that has affected at least 857, 443 people in the province.,

In that southern part of the country, the Angolan Head of State, who is scheduled to arrive in the province on Friday night, is to visit the settlement of Oshiwanda.

Before that, the Head of State will pass through the south-western Namibe Province, where he will visit infrastructures linked to the water sector.

Since October 2018, Cunene has experienced a major water and pasture crisis, with 79.1 percent of the total population (estimated at one million and 157 thousand and 491 inhabitants) being affected.

The latest data from the Provincial Government point to the existence of 299,623 people suffering from hunger and thirst only in the locality of Cahama (the most targeted).
