Head of State creates Commission to honor victims of political conflicts

Luanda, ANGOLA, April 26 - The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, created Friday by Decree a Commission for the elaboration of a general plan to pay tribute to the victims of the political conflicts that occurred in Angola from November 11, 1975 to April 4, 2002.,

According to a press communiqué released by the President of the Republic, that reached Angop, reads that the initiative of the Angolan Head of State is part of the efforts to consolidate the Democratic and Rule of Law.

The Commission is aimed to propose appropriate mechanisms for identifying and communicating with families and legal or natural entities with an interest in the subject and obtaining the cooperation expected from them.

The Commission also aims to make suggestions on how the Angolan State should pay proper homage to the victims of political conflicts, as well as work with the appropriate institutions to elaborate the projects and budgets for the construction of the monument and the acts of homage.

The homage is intended to heal the psychological wounds of families and to regenerate the spirit of brotherhood among Angolans through forgiveness and national reconciliation.

The Commission is coordinated by Minister of Justice and Human Rights, and should present an Action Plan and its implementation schedule within 30 days.

It is comprised of representatives of the Civil Security houses of the President of the Republic, the Ministries of National Defense, Interior, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland, Mass Media, as well as the State Security and Information Service.

However, it will be supported by a Technical Group and may consult, among other institutions, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Family, Social Action and Promotion of Women, Health, Culture, as well as political parties with parliamentary seats, recognized religious organizations, civil society and other entities whose corporate purpose facilitates the attainment of their ends.

The Commission shall remain in force until July 31, 2021.
