TUSTIN, Calif., April 24, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Prentice School, a private, nonprofit academic school, which offers unparalleled learning experiences to students who learn differently, asked supporters to join them for their gala event, centered around the theme Education Reimagined, Together, We Achieve. The gala was held on Saturday, April 13 at the Newport Beach Country Club in Newport Beach.

The theme, “Education Reimagined”, served as a reminder to our supporters that we are changing the lives of students at The Prentice School and giving them the tools they need to succeed and become strong contributing members to society.  At Prentice, we take great pride in the community of support we have built around students that includes parents, donors, board members and community partners.

Prentice was honored to have Janet Steiner, Former CEO of Thoro Packaging, as its keynote speaker.  From an early age Jan knew she was different, and recalls being singled out as the student who wouldn’t amount to much and, in fact, was told by a high school teacher, “don’t bother going to college—you won’t make it.”  “I have dyslexia and ADD and was a slow learner in school.  In high school, I applied to an extra-curricular program aimed at preparing youth for a successful business future.  I was told I wasn’t entrepreneurial material.”  This is a key reason why Jan now supports The Prentice School as she wants students to know that “they can achieve in life despite having a learning difference.”

Corinne Conklin, Director of Development for The Prentice School added, “Having been engaged and active with The Prentice School for more than 15 years, I was very impressed to witness the continued engagement of our visionary founding members, alumni students and their parents, current parents, and members of the community, including representatives from Experian, South Coast Plaza, and Volcom, to name a few. As a result of everyone coming together in support of Prentice, we raised a record amount.” Conklin also happily added that over $150,000 of the proceeds raised will go to the school’s Scholarship Fund to assist students in financial need.

This event demonstrated that when we join together, we can achieve greatness in the lives of students who learn differently and we have the entire community to thank for joining us to better the lives of our students.
