Parex Q1 2019 Production 51,200 boe/d – 27th Quarterly Increase

CALGARY, Alberta, April 15, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Parex Resources Inc. (“Parex” or the “Company”) (TSX:PXT), a company headquartered in Calgary, Alberta and focused on Colombian oil exploration and production, provides an operational update, highlighted by surpassing the production milestone of 50,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day ("boe/d").

Production: Parex’ Q1 2019 average production is estimated at 51,200 boe/d compared to the Company's Q4 2018 average quarterly production of 49,300 boe/d.  We expect Q2 2019 production to average 52,000 boe/d.

Share Repurchases: On December 21, 2018 Parex began a normal course issuer bid (“NCIB”) with the intent to repurchase for cancellation approximately 15.0 million shares (10% of public float).   As at April 12, 2019 the Company has repurchased 7.6 million shares at an average cost of C$19.22 per share for a total of C$146 million. Basic shares outstanding as at March 31, 2019 were 149.4 million compared to 155.0 million as at December 31, 2018. At present, Parex is repurchasing 75,000 shares per day under an automatic share purchase plan.

Block LLA-34 Infrastructure: A flowline from Block LLA-34 to the regional pipeline system has been completed and is expected to commence flowing oil in Q2 2019.

Capachos (WI Parex 50%):   The Andina Norte-1 exploration well was spud to evaluate the Mirador, Guadalupe and Une Formations in an undrilled compartment on the Capachos structure.  The Company has drilled, logged and cased the Guadalupe Formation for testing. Parex is currently drilling at 18,100 feet with a target depth of approximately 19,100 feet to assess the Une Formation.

At present, the Capachos block gross production is restricted at approximately 5,300 bopd (net 2,650 bopd).  During 2019 we expect to increase the field’s productive capability in stages to 10,000 boe/d by Q4 2019 with the commissioning of a central gas plant and field flowlines.

Oil & Gas Matters Advisory

The term "Boe" means a barrel of oil equivalent on the basis of 6 Mcf of natural gas to 1 barrel of oil ("bbl"). Boe’s may be misleading, particularly if used in isolation. A boe conversion ratio of 6 Mcf: 1 bbl is based on an energy equivalency conversion method primarily applicable at the burner tip and does not represent a value equivalency at the wellhead. Given the value ratio based on the current price of crude oil as compared to natural gas is significantly different from the energy equivalency of 6:1, utilizing a conversion ratio at 6:1 may be misleading as an indication of value.

References in this press release to production test rates and initial flow rates are useful in confirming the presence of hydrocarbons, however such rates are not determinative of the rates at which such wells will commence production and decline thereafter and are not indicative of long term performance or of ultimate recovery. Additionally, such rates may also include recovered "load oil" fluids used in well completion stimulation. While encouraging, readers are cautioned not to place reliance on such rates in calculating the aggregate production for Parex. A pressure transient analysis or well-test interpretation has not been carried out in respect of all wells. Accordingly, the Company cautions that the test results should be considered preliminary.
