Cuba reaffirms support for Angola's economic recovery

Luanda, ANGOLA, March 24 - The Vice President of the Council of State and Ministers of Cuba Salvador Valdes Mesan has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to cooperate in the economic recovery of Angola.,

 

This was at the end of an audience granted Friday in Luanda by the Angolan head of State, João lourenço.

Valdes Mesan, who  came to Angola to attend the celebrations of the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale on Saturday, put at more than 2,000 the number Cuban technicians working in Angola, as part of bilateral cooperation.  

Speaking to the press on the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale, the Cuban official said the Battle forced the former South African apartheid regime to accept negotiations, which allowed proclaiming the independence of Namibia.

The battle, which took place from November 15, 1987 to March 23, 1988, in the south east province of Cuando Cubango, brought together military forces of the former Popular Liberation Armed Forces of Angola (Fapla), the Revolutionary Forces of Cuba (FAR) the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (Unita) and the South African army.

 Angola/Cuba cooperation    In the light of military aid from the Cuban internationalists (1974-1991), bilateral relations between Angola and Cuba have become, in parallel, long cooperation in various fields.
