NeighborWorks America provides $70 million in flexible grants to 242 nonprofits

Organizations will use grants to develop affordable housing, restore neighborhoods and create jobs

Washington, D.C., March 21, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Neighborhood Reinvestment Corp., dba NeighborWorks America, will award $70 million in flexible grants to 242 nonprofit organizations, all members of the NeighborWorks network.

This fiscal-year (FY) 2019 grant funding (appropriated through Public Law 116-6, the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2019) will allow these organizations to further NeighborWorks America's mission to create opportunities for people to improve their lives and strengthen their communities.  

“Once again, Congress has demonstrated it has a sharp eye for a good investment,” said NeighborWorks America President and CEO Marietta Rodriguez. “NeighborWorks America’s proven ability to leverage $60 for every $1 of Congressional appropriation is a testament to the remarkable performance of NeighborWorks America’s network of nearly 250 organizations located in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia.  We are proud to operationalize excellence through these grant awards to our powerful and innovative network.  These organizations demonstrate their leadership every day in providing affordable housing opportunities, building strong neighborhoods and creating jobs.  In fiscal year 2018 alone, this resulted in a direct investment of $8.4 billion in communities across the country.”

In fiscal year 2018, NeighborWorks America and the NeighborWorks network provided more than 457,000 housing and counseling services, including:

• 25,100 homeowners created.
• 13,200 quality, affordable rental homes developed.
• 11,100 affordable homes retained, rehabilitated or refinanced.
• 75,000 homes repaired.
• 166,900 quality, affordable rental homes owned and/or managed
• 457,000 housing and counseling services provided.
• 14,600 training certificates issued.
• 45,100 jobs created/maintained.
