Luanda, ANGOLA, March 19 - The United States of America pledged to grant USD 2 million to assist Angola in landmine clearance, fight against money laundering and financing to terrorism.,

 

The pledge came from the US Assistant Secretary of State,  John Sullivan,

during a joint press conference with Angolan Foreign Affairs minister, Manuel Augusto at the end of a meeting to assess both countries’ strategic partnership dialogue.

 

He said that US would send Treasury Department Advisers  to help combat money laundering and financing to terrorism, under the programme of assistance.

 

John Sullivan considered Angola  the US’s main partners in Africa, praising the country’s economic potential and the strength the nation represents for the security and combat  terrorism in region.

The US official commended the good impression of the government under the President João Lourenço  in its initial efforts to promote good governance both in Angola and at regional level.

 He said that the meeting approached various issues, including those related to Angola's efforts to improve its business climate, increase trade, combat corruption, aimed to promote good governance and human rights.

The increase of bilateral cooperation in sectors such as health and safety had also been discussed.

 

 John Sullivan said he hopped that the State and Treasury Departments meet Angola to help the country improve trust and investment climate.

 In turn, the Angolan Foreign minister thanked the US for its availability to help Angola in its fight against corruption and terrorism, as well as the recovery of public assets.

 He also said that the parties did not sign Monday a memorandum of understanding in the ​​security and public order sectors until they improve it (document).
