Kyle Taylor, CEO of The Penny Hoarder, Issues Letter of Support for Florida State Bill Dorothy L. Hukill Financial Literacy Act, SB 114

St. Petersburg, Fla, Feb. 25, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Kyle Taylor, founder and CEO of The Penny Hoarder,  issued a letter of support for the Dorothy L. Hukill Financial Literacy Act (SB 114). The proposed bill requires all Florida high school students entering ninth grade in 2019-20 and beyond to take a course focusing on finance and money management.

A longtime Florida resident and financial literacy advocate, Taylor said his support of the bill speaks to his passion and The Penny Hoarder’s vision to help people stress less about their personal finances.

“I graduated high school excited and thinking I was fully ready to manage my financial future but after years of trial and error, I wound up in over $50,000 in student loan and credit card debt,” said Taylor. “In hindsight, I was not prepared for financial responsibility. This legislation will help ensure students today are better equipped with knowledge of personal finance.”

In 2010, Taylor began to write about his financial journey and started the ThePennyHoarder.com. He remains committed to financial literacy. Taylor’s company provides free educational resources, information and actionable advice to people looking to better manage their money. The Penny Hoarder sees over 12 million visitors a month. The site includes hundreds of articles and personal stories ranging from the basics of money management to retirement, taxes, banking and debt payoff.

The late Sen. Dorothy Hukill (R-Port Orange) was a sponsor and advocate of SB 114 during her time in the Senate. She passed away in October 2018. Her co-sponsor, Sen. Travis Hutson (R-St. Augustine), is now seeking to pass the bill in her honor. If the bill passes, the Dorothy L. Hukill Financial Literacy Act will take effect July 1, 2019.
