IGAE denies alleged irregularities in tax administration
Luanda, ANGOLA, February 14 - The General Inspectorate of State Administration (IGAE) Thursday denied information, released Wednesday in the press and social media about the detection of several million dollars payments abroad, in private accounts, involving leaders and managers of the General Tax Administration (AGT).,
In a press release, the IGAE confirms that it has carried out an inspection to the General Tax Administration.
The source added that the inspection has not yet produced results, as it is still in the process of "analysing and evaluating all the information collected, with a view to preparing a Report on the facts ascertained ".
The IGAE note reached Angop on Thursday is a reaction to a story carried in Wednesday's edition of the State-owned news paper “Jornal de Angola”, and relayed by several media outlets.
In its text titled "Inspection to AGT detects several million payments abroad", Jornal de Angola states that during the work carried out by IGAE the inspectors found financial frauds involving many managers and leaders.
It alleged that the process operated through millionaire contracts, whose payments are made abroad, mainly in Portugal, in private accounts ".
AGT confirms inspections but denies illegalities.
The CEO of AGT, Sílvio Burity, confirmed that IGAE conducted audits in January, but denied existing cases of corruption, nepotism, mismanagement or embezzlement in the institution, as alleged by newspaper.
To Silvio Burity, the payment abroad is not justified as the work has been done in Angola. There are financial and banking institutions in the country where the financial operations should be made, he said.
