"I am proud to cosponsor H.R. 1, the first piece of major legislation that we will consider in the new Democratic Majority.  This reform package will impose stricter ethics rules, require disclosure of a decade's worth of presidential tax returns, crack down on the corrupting influence of dark money in campaigns, and restore voting rights protections to ensure equal access to the ballot for all eligible voters.  I applaud Rep. Sarbanes for his tireless leadership on this and other government reform efforts, and I look forward to bringing this bill to the Floor once the legislation is considered in committee.  Democrats are determined to clean up corruption, put government back to work for the people it serves, and restore the American people’s faith that government can be a force for progress. H.R. 1 is a major first step toward achieving those goals."
