The Novoportovskoye field is one of the most significant oil and gas condensate fields in the Yamal Peninsula currently under development. It is located within the Arctic Circle, some distance from pipeline transportation infrastructure. Recoverable C1 and С2 reserves are estimated at more than 250 million tonnes of oil and condensate, as well as more than 320 billion cubic metres of gas inclusive of Palaeozoic deposits. Novoportovskoye crude is categorised as “light”, with low sulphur content (of about 0.1 percent).
Gazpromneft Yamal achieves target hydrocarbon production levels in 2018
9.9 million tonnes of oil equivalent (mtoe) has been produced at Gazpromneft Yamal’s Novoportovskoye field in 2018 — production of oil equivalent at this Arctic field having increased 40 percent year-on-year. Oil equivalent (o.e.) is used in accounting for units of fossil fuels — i.e., oil and oil derivatives, natural occurring resources and those derived from the processing of shale, fossil coal, gas and peat — used in calculating the overall efficiency (i.e., energy generation) of various kinds of fuel. Fulfilment of the business plan ahead of schedule has been made possible thanks to technological advances throughout the entire production chain, including innovations in hydrocarbon production, well construction, the installation of new infrastructure facilities, and hydrocarbon transportation.
Six productive strata — in which the bulk of oil reserves are located — are being developed at the Novoportovskoye field. Average daily production in 2018 totalled 19,600 tonnes of oil. Two hundred and 27 wells are in operation, of which 27 are multilateral wells. Twenty wells have been constructed at record drilling speeds for the company, construction of multilateral wells is ongoing, and non-ball-and-socket fracking technologies are being introduced, together with proactive geo-steering.
The Arctic Gates oil-loading terminal in the Gulf of Ob is of strategic importance in developing fields on the Yamal Peninsula. In addition to the Novoportovskoye field, more than 20 oil and gas fields have been discovered in the Arctic Circle. Delivering oil to consumers from these assets is possible by sea. “Shturman” tankers
have been built to order specifically for Gazprom Neft. These Arc7-class vessels have a cargo-bearing capacity of 42,000 tonnes, and a maximum freshwater draught of 9.5 metres. The tankers have been specially designed for deployment in the shallow waters of the Gulf of Ob, and can negotiate ice of 1.4 to 1.8 metres thick. The company is now completing its construction of a major production complex in the Arctic to facilitate utilisation of associated petroleum gas (APG), with gas initially feeding into a central gas processing facility (GPF) designed for the processing and subsequent reinjection of gas into productive strata. Thanks to this technology up to 17 million cubic metres of gas per day is being reinjected at the Novoportovskoye field. The APG treated here is also being used to fuel a gas turbine power plant (GTPP), which has now reached its target capacity of 96 MW and is supplying electricity for domestic and production facilities at the field.
A new analytical laboratory was commissioned at the Novoportovskoye oil and gas condensate field in 2018, designed to fulfil more than 20 kinds of high-technology testing — the priorities here continuing to be the testing of commercial oil, APG and gas condensate. Laboratory testing confirms the high quality of Novy Port oil and is used to monitor the condition of technical and service fluids responsible for ensuring the continuous operation of production equipment.
