SHAREFEST, LOCAL NONPROFIT, HONORS TOMMY LASORDA AT UPCOMING 15TH ANNUAL GALA ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 1

At their 15th Annual Gala: Changing the Odds, Sharefest is gathering LA’s influencers for one night to raise money to change the odds for the youth of LA.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES , November 30, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Los Angeles, CA, November 30, 2018. Sharefest has been working in the greater LA area for 15 years to fight against civic decline and work to give youth the tools mobilize from poverty. This year at their 15th Annual Gala: Changing the Odds, Sharefest is gathering LA’s dreamers and influencers for one night to raise money and change the odds for the youth of LA. Special guests include Dr. Geeta and Henrik Fisker, actor and comedian Jay Mohr, and philanthropists Melanie and Richard Lundquist.

Sharefest will honor local hero, Tommy Lasorda from the LA Dodgers, with the Sharefest Community Hero Award. “It’s such a privilege to honor an LA legend and true community hero such as Tommy Lasorda” says Mayer. “He has had an amazing career, but also been a great example of mentorship and commitment to community.”

Hosted by Los Angeles Councilman Joe Buscaino, the event will raise funds to complete the transformation of the former San Pedro Municipal Jail into the Sharefest Youth Leadership Center. “We’ve seen over and over again that it’s crucial for youth to have a safe place to develop life skills, be mentored and become leaders,” says Sharefest executive director, Chad Mayer.

Once complete, the Sharefest Youth Leadership Center will provide a safe space for learning, offer healing with trauma-informed mental health services, and help students develop college and career pathways. “Students will be assigned to small cohorts who will journey together from middle school to high school to college and beyond. It’s a really unique approach that gives students consistent support and accountability during the years they need it most, “ says Salvador Sanchez, Jr. Program Director for the Youth Leadership Center.

Sharefest’s goal for every student who leaves the with the Youth Leadership Center is for them to have a clear plan and purpose to go on to lead lives of success and lead change in their community.

Join Sharefest as they empower youth, transform communities and change odds for the youth of LA.
