Gazprom and CNPC Arts Festival underway in China

Release

The Gala Concert of the 12th Gazprom and CNPC Arts Festival took place today in Guangzhou, People’s Republic of China.

The event was opened by Vitaly Markelov, Deputy Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, and Hou Qijun, Vice President of CNPC.

Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, sent his greetings to the Festival’s participants and organizers. His message reads:

“The strategic cooperation between our companies continues its dynamic momentum. Together, we make a substantial contribution to deepening Russian-Chinese relations. The route of the Silk Road has served as a link between Russia and China for many centuries. Today, we are building a “gas road” that will further strengthen the links between our countries.

I am pleased to note that Gazprom and CNPC’s cooperation encompasses not only energy but also culture. A compelling example of that dynamic is the Arts Festival, which unites a wide array of creative teams and has long become a major cultural event. Our annual celebrations cultivate mutual interest in the traditions and history of our countries and stimulate intercultural dialogue.”

The 12th Gazprom and CNPC Arts Festival is taking place on November 17 to 21. The event has brought together more than 100 performers representing both companies. The feature of the Gala Concert was a joint rendition of a song in Chinese and Russian written by an employee of CNPC.

Background

Gazprom’s main partner in China is CNPC, a state-owned oil and gas company.

The Gazprom and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) Arts Festival ranks among the most important joint cultural projects of the two companies. The first joint concert of Gazprom and CNPC's ensembles was held in April 2007.
