CNH Industrial (NYSE: CNHI /MI: CNHI) announces that its Magirus Fire Fighting plant in Brescia, northern Italy, has achieved Bronze level certification in the World Class Manufacturing (WCM) program.
A range of special firefighting and disaster control vehicles are designed and manufactured at the plant which are used by fire brigades around the world in diverse situations, from urban environments to forest firefighting. Extending over a total area of 52,000 sqm, of which 24,000 is covered, the plant has a workforce of some 150 people.
Brescia is home to the Magirus Dragon, a state-of-the-art vehicle designed for complex airport fire safety tasks. Powered by the Twin Engine Power Pack producing 1,120 hp, these impressive machines can reach a top speed of 135 km/h and can pump up 10,000 liters of water per minute whilst on the move. Magirus recently won a major contract to supply 31 Dragons to the Spanish airport operator AENA.
WCM is one of the global manufacturing industry’s highest standards for the integrated management of manufacturing plants and processes. It is a pillar-structured system based on continuous improvement, designed to eliminate waste and loss from the production process by identifying objectives such as zero injuries, zero defects, zero breakdowns and zero waste. To certify improvements, a system of periodic third-party audits evaluates all of the WCM pillars, forming an overall score for each plant that is the basis for three achievement levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold.
The Brescia plant made significant improvements in the area of People Development and maintained a high level of consistency in the Work Place Organization and Energy/Environment pillars.
