New Public Television Series ‘Risk & Reward’ Premieres October 6

Roadtrip Nation’s Newest Four-Episode Documentary Series Explores What It’s Like to Work in the World of Insurance

Costa Mesa, California, Oct. 04, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Saturday, October 6, marks the debut of “Risk & Reward,” an exciting new four-part documentary television series about people across the country who have made improbability their profession. Produced by career exploration nonprofit Roadtrip Nation and presented by KQED, “Risk & Reward” dives into the world of insurance through interviews with people working in all facets of the field. Made possible with support from the Travelers Foundation, “Risk & Reward” explores insurance through the eyes of Alain, Gaby, and Jenna, three young adults interested in pursuing career paths in different areas of the industry. Together, the three take a cross-country adventure from Boston to San Francisco in Roadtrip Nation’s green RV, stopping along the way to sit down with professionals working in the industry.

Roadtripper Alain’s propensity for actuarial science shines through immediately — when he calculates the probability of the green RV getting into an accident. But with graduation approaching, he needs this road trip to give him a sign that he’s headed in the right direction. Jenna is in a similar spot; while she seems like the most confident of the three, she’s still unsure about what the future of insurance holds for her. Meanwhile, Gaby is ready to embrace a different aspect of risk on this road trip: joining the team from her home in Wales, she’s exploring a foreign country for the first time.

As their journey unfolds, “Risk & Reward” gets a fascinating peek at the ways insurance is evolving to address a risk-filled future: Kate Sampson, vice president of risk solutions at Lyft, paints an exciting picture of what insurance might look like in a world full of autonomous vehicles. Event security expert David Shotts takes the team backstage at a major music festival being insured through his brokerage firm. And industry leader Karen Clark explains how her catastrophe modeling systems are helping insurers better prepare to respond to claims after natural disasters — more effectively helping people when they need it most.
