Preservation of Okavango region gains momentum

Luanda, ANGOLA, October 3 - The start off Wednesday of Installing Commission of National Agency of Okavango Region (Anagero) will boost greater protection and preservation of the environmental components of the south-east Cuando Cubango province-based zone. ,

 

The organ will ensure the increase in the use of the tourist and environmental potential of about 90,000 k2 region.

 

The Commission was sworn in Wednesday by minister of State and Head of President's Civil Affairs Office, Frederico Cardoso, and is task with creating the material and technical conditions for the implementation of the project.

 

The task also includes approval of the Inter-municipal Master Plan for the municipalities of Cuíto-Cuanavale, Namcova, Mavinga, Dirico and Rivungo, as well as coordinating with the organs and services of the Central and Local State Administration on the programmes and projects to be implemented in the region.

 

Speaking at the event, Frederico Cardoso highlighted the role of the body in securing development of the work and multidisciplinary study of that region.

 

The minister of Hotel and Tourism, Ângela Bragança, who attended the ceremony, stated that the Installing Commission will conduct the study of all the issues linked to this area.

 

Okavango region is part of the Okavango/Zambezi project called "KAZA".

 

It comprises five countries in the southern Africa region (Angola, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Botswana).

 

The KAZA project aims at implementing cross-border tourism among the five states.

 

The objective is to contribute to the socio-economic and cultural development of the region, particularly Angola.
