Attorney Urges Men to Take This Medical Test to Detect Prostate Cancer

DENVER, COLORADO, USA, October 2, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ -- A Denver attorney recently participated in a viral live video that sheds light on an important medical test that many doctors are declining to offer. The interview took place on August 1 on the AskTheLawyers.com™ Facebook page. Attorney Frank Cristiano of Cristiano Law, LLC discussed the details of a prostate test known as the PSA, or prostate specific antigen. This is a blood test that can indicate the early signs of prostate cancer.

The PSA test can detect early warning signs of prostate cancer. For a time, it was a standard test for men over 50. That changed when the US Preventative Task Force issued a warning about possible overtreatment with the test, so many doctors stopped performing it. One estimate says that since doctors stopped performing this routine test in 2012, roughly 17,000 additional men have been diagnosed with advanced stage prostate cancer.

As Cristiano points out in the video, men who developed prostate cancer and were not given this test could have grounds for legal recourse. He says if you are over the age of 50 and your doctor never performed or discussed performing this test, and you learn later that you have advanced stage prostate cancer, this could constitute medical malpractice. He says that it does no harm to perform the test.

Professional and Personal Experience With the PSA Test

Cristiano noticed that his doctor had stopped performing the PSA test during his yearly physicals. He requested a PSA test, and his doctor saw that his PSA number had risen alarmingly fast. Further tests revealed the presence of prostate cancer. He received treatment that stopped the spread of the cancer before it created a serious health risk.

“Because I stepped up and asked for the PSA test, I was able to catch it early, and deal with it,” he said.

Cristiano has been representing injured victims for many decades. He has tried or arbitrated a many types of cases cases, including malpractice, personal injury, and financial or business claims. He is a member of the Faculty of Federal Advocates, the co-chair of the Denver and Colorado Bar Associations Interprofessional Committee, and a fellow of the Colorado Bar Foundation.
