Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) Calls on Council Members to Secure Justice for Tamil Genocide

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND, September 10, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ --

The Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam (TGTE) announced today that it supports the agenda of the 39th Session of the UN Human Rights Council.

“The breath of issues that the Human Rights Council is tasked with addressing is no small feat, and the TGTE appreciates the hard work and dedication of all Council members,” said TGTE Prime Minister Visuvanathan Rudrakumaran.

“The TGTE also hopes that the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Genocide Convention during this year further inspires Council Members to utilize all avenues available to them to seek justice for all atrocity crimes—past and present.”

TGTE urges the Council to hold perpetrator States addressed during this year’s Session, including Syria, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, responsible for criminal acts committed against their people. The TGTE also applauds the Council for its unwavering pursuit of justice for Myanmar’s Rohingya.

The TGTE hopes that the Council will apply this level of attention and persistence to the Tamil issue, which includes mass murder, rape, forced sterilization, forced disappearances and many other grave breaches of human rights values and laws. The TGTE urges the Council to refer Sri Lanka to the International Criminal Court (ICC) should it fail to fulfill its commitments, detailed in Resolutions 30/1 and 34/1, to the Council by March 2019.

“Next year marks the 10th anniversary of the Tamil genocide, and the Tamil people have waited long enough to see justice brought to bear,” said Prime Minister Rudrakumaran.

“One of our greatest hopes is that the discussions in Geneva over the next two and a half weeks inspire Council members to tell Sri Lanka that its repeated failures to deliver on its promises for justice and its brazen repudiation of its commitment will no longer be tolerated. http://www.ft.lk/front-page/President-reiterates-his-pledge-to-protect-war-heroes-from-foreign-tribunals/44-643195 The sanctity of human rights everywhere depends on it.”

The TGTE wishes the Council success in its endeavors at the 39th Session.
