Zaire: Supreme Court chief justice directs creation of juvenile court

Mbanza Kongo, ANGOLA, August 3 - Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Rui Ferreira recommended the creation of conditions for setting up a juvenile court to handle the cases involving adolescents in northern Zaire province. ,

 

The Magistrate told the press at the end of a meeting with the operators of justice administration that the move stems from high criminal acts occurring in the region, mainly involving minors.

 

He mentioned the creation of juvenile court, among the actions and measures to be implemented by the central structures of the Supreme Court (TS) for the province of Zaire.

 

"The main concern about the functioning of the justice sector in the province of Zaire has to do with the high number of children in conflict with the law," he said.

 

Rui Ferreira also alluded to several cases of many adults encouraging minors to engage in criminal acts in the region.

 

On his last day of 48-hour visit to Zaire, Rui Ferreira and his delegation travelled to the prison facility, located in Nkiende, 30km

west of the province's capital, Mbanza Kongo.
