Portuguese Language Institute in need of financial and human resources

Sal Island, ANGOLA, July 17 - The executive director of the International Institute of Portuguese Language (IILP), Marisa Mendonça, recommended to the members of the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries to unite and equip the institute with the best conditions, in order to fulfill its real role.,

Marisa Mendonça told Journalists at the sideline of a meeting of the ministers responsible for the diplomacy of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), which prepare the XII Summit of Heads of State and Government of the organization, to be held as from 17 to 18 July.

The executive director defended more attention of the member states, in order to improve the functioning of the International Institute of Portuguese Language (IILP), which accumulates a debt of almost 1 million euros, equivalent to or higher than three budgets.

She also reported that the institute is struggling with a chronic lack of financial and human resources, having only two full-time employees, not trained in Portuguese.

Marisa Mendonça considers her mandate to be a gesture of donation rather than a mission, as problems grow worse and worse, with no solution in sight.

At the time, the Prime Minister of Cape Verde, José Luís Correia e Silva, promised to make efforts to counteract the current situation, given the resistance of the Member States to honoring their quotas.
