Patent Trial and Appeal Board Denies Guest-Tek’s Petitions for Review of Nomadix Patents

AGOURA HILLS, Calif., July 02, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On Friday, June 29, 2018 the United States Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) denied petitions by Guest-Tek Interactive Entertainment for review of two of Nomadix’s patents. “Like previous challenges to Nomadix’s patents by others, these challenges by Guest-Tek failed,” said Fred Reeder, president of Nomadix. “The PTAB’s decisions reinforce the value of our intellectual property.” In the decisions denying Guest-Tek’s petitions, the PTAB explained that Guest-Tek had failed to demonstrate a reasonable likelihood that it could show unpatentability of any of the claims from the Nomadix patents.

On June 21, 2018, Guest-Tek issued a press release incorrectly stating that the PTAB had decided to institute trials on the same two Nomadix patents. The decisions issued Friday are the opposite of what Guest-Tek announced in its press release on June 21, 2018.  The PTAB has denied Guest-Tek’s petitions for review of Nomadix’s patents, putting an end to Guest-Tek’s latest bid to invalidate Nomadix’s patents.

The parties’ license dispute continues. In 2016, Nomadix sued Guest-Tek for breach of a license agreement in the United States District Court for the Central District of California. Nomadix expects to seek over $15 million in unpaid royalties from Guest-Tek at trial.
