Lesotho: SADC urges military staff to serve and protect society
Maseru, ANGOLA, June 4 - The Lesotho Defense Forces (LDF) were urged to serve and protect the society in consistency with the country's political objectives and economic resources.

The exhortation was made Wednesday in Maseru by the Commander of the Forces of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Preventive Mission in the Kingdom of Lesotho (SAPMIL), Brigadier Sabino Dunguionga Saara.
The Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) officer in the service of SADC spoke at the closing act of the regional organization-sponsored Seminar on Civilian-Military Relations for LDF Officers and Sergeants.
"The armed forces of any country, including LDF, should serve the societies they are meant to protect, and in the same vein, military policies and capabilities must be consistent with the country's political goals and economic resources," said Brigadier Saara.
On the occasion, Sabino Saara reiterated the importance and benefits of civilian control over the military as a substantial element of an effective democratic system.
According to him, the seminar was a milestone in fulfilling SAPMIL's mandate to, among others, assists LDFs in training their Civilian/Military Relations, Military/Civilian Cooperation and Military/Media Relations.
He values the interrelationship between civilian and military authorities in the day-to-day operations of the Nation/State.
The seminar was attended by 193 officers and sergeants, and was closed by the LDF commander, Lieutenant General Mojalefa Letsoela, who at the time highlighted the role of SADC in stabilizing the country.
The mission is headed by Angola within the rotating presidency of the Organization's Political, Defense and Security Cooperation body.
