The run is nothing like you’ve ever seen, and includes the remarkable combination of colorful costumed individuals, and terrifying looking “Bulls”.  New Orleans bulls, in the spirit of safety and animal protection undertaken by the organizers are none other than roller derby girls wearing horns and carrying nerf bats!

Featuring easy drinking wines from Spain, this dinner will be held on Thursday, July 12 at  the historic Orleans Ballroom of the  Collection’s  highly rated Bourbon Orleans Hotel, located at 717 Rue Orleans in the French Quarter.

A special guest of the evening will be Governor Bernardo de Galvez, ruling governor of the Spanish territory from 1777 to 1785.   A cocktail mixer will start at 6:30pm p.m., with the dinner being served at 7:30 p.m.  Guests are offered reduced price valet parking at the hotel entrance.  As an added treat, flamenco guitar music will be provided through the evening by acclaimed musician Riccardo Crespo, a native of Brazil, now living in New Orleans between world tours.

Guests of the dinner are encouraged to wear the traditional garb of the Festival participants:  all white cotton or linen  “pantelones” , white shirt, and brilliant red sash.   All manner of red and white will be accepted at this dinner!

Three wines specially selected to complement the four course dinner will be served, ending with a Tawny Port from the Douro Valley of Portugal. The special price for the four course dinner, wines, service and gratuities is $99 per person. The dinner will help raise funds for the support of the Running of the Bulls festival, and the 501C(3) animal charities that the organization supports.

Chef Stanley Broussard a native of New Orleans has designed a delectable menu offering a true taste of Spain in celebration of the festival.   The high-light  of the four course menu will be the chef’s  Braised Short Rib with fig barbeque sauce and fingerling potatoes

This hearty dish is designed to give runners the fortitude  needed for the upcoming race.  Generous applications of the evening’s wine also contribute to the rigorous training the runners endure.

Special guests who will be recognized include the decedents of immigrants from the Canary Islands, who settled south of New Orleans in St. Bernard Parish hundreds of years ago. These  “Islenos” as they are known, form a strong culturally significant group with distinct ties to Spain.
