April 25 Webinar to Share Best Practices in Tribal Energy Business Models

The U.S. Department of Energy Office of Indian Energy, in partnership with the Western Area Power Administration, is hosting a free webinar titled “Best Practices in Tribal Energy Business Models” on Wednesday, April 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mountain Time.

Several different structures can be used by tribes to form an energy business, but no single model will work for every tribe. In this webinar, attendees will learn best practices for tribal energy business structures, including their advantages and disadvantages, goals associated with different business models, and examples of various models. Tribal leaders and community members will also learn how to select the best structure for their goals, existing codes, and laws.

The webinar will begin with an introduction from Kevin Frost, recently appointed Deputy Director of the Office of Indian Energy, followed by an overview of tribal business structures and options for tribal energy businesses by Kenneth Parsons and Tara S. Kaushik of Holland & Knight LLP. The webinar will conclude with a tribal case study from Cameron Cooper, Retail Development Specialist for Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, and Kevin Cornelius of Red Fern LLC.

There is no charge to attend, but registration is required. Register now for this webinar, and learn more about the 2018 Tribal Sovereignty and Self-Determination through Community Energy Development webinar series.
