Good Energy Launches New York Municipal Energy Progam With Association of Towns and New York Conference of Mayors
New York communities can sign up to save money on energy bills through this innovative, new program
NEW YORK, Feb. 08, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Association of Towns of the State of New York (AOT) and the New York State Conference of Mayors (NYCOM) have partnered with New York City-based energy consultant Good Energy to create the New York Municipal Energy Program (NYMEP), a one-of-a-kind, innovative Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) and Municipal buying initiative that allows New York communities and municipal facilities to save money on energy costs.
The program enables municipalities and community residents to join a bulk energy buying group to increase energy purchasing power and decrease costs. The New York Public Service Commission authorized the creation of CCAs in 2015 as part of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Reforming the Energy Vision program. New York is the seventh state in the country to allow CCAs, and Good Energy participated in the initial design of its first such program in Westchester County.
“This is an exciting collaboration that’s unprecedented between the two organizations,” says Javier Barrios, Good Energy Managing Partner. “After months of development with NYCOM and AOT, we’re proud to open enrollment to New York municipalities throughout the state.”
To sign up, communities simply need to visit www.NY-mep.com and complete the on-line enrollment form.
“As community leaders, mayors are always looking for ways to save taxpayer money,” says Peter Baynes, Executive Director of NYCOM. “The New York Municipal Energy Program doesn’t cost municipalities any money to join and communities may quickly see significant savings.”
“The greatest benefit of the New York Municipal Energy Program is the economy of scale,” says Gerry Geist, AOT Executive Director. “The more communities that join, the better the pricing we can get.”
Municipalities that sign up will be able to save on energy costs for facilities such as wastewater treatment plants, correctional facilities and municipally-owned buildings.
AOT and NYCOM represent the majority of municipalities in New York and advocate legislative initiatives supporting cities, towns, and villages of New York. As the fully endorsed, exclusive consultant for the program, Good Energy will negotiate lower energy costs for electricity and natural gas. Good Energy’s marketplace expertise also enables NYMEP to secure the best prices. The organizations have been working together to develop this unique program for several months, and Good Energy is a corporate member of both AOT and of the NYCOM Network.
“The energy market is a live, dynamic environment,” Barrios says. “Prices can change instantly. NYMEP provides price stability and optionality for a municipality and its residents.”
More information about NYMEP will be shared at upcoming conferences, such as the NYCOM Winter Legislative Meeting, Feb. 11-13 in Albany and NY AOT Conference in NYC, Feb 18-21.
