Press Release - FAA Proposes $54,000 Civil Penalty Against True Value Company

WASHINGTON The U.S Department of Transportations Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) proposes a $54,000 civil penalty against True Value Company of Jonesboro, Ga., for allegedly violating the Hazardous Materials Regulations.

The FAA alleges that on May 10, 2017, True Value offered a four-liter metal container of flammable epoxy paint to FedEx for shipment by air to Crossett, Ark.

Workers at the FedEx cargo facility in Fort Worth, Texas, discovered the shipment leaking.

The FAA alleges the package was not accompanied by a shippers declaration of dangerous goods and was not properly classed, described, packaged, marked, labeled or in the proper condition for shipment. The agency also alleges True Value failed to ensure that each of its hazmat employees received required hazardous materials training, and failed to provide emergency response information with the shipment.

True Value has 30 days from receipt of the FAAs enforcement letter to respond to the agency.
