Angola open to Italian investment

The Statesman was speaking at a joint press conference with Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni, who has been in Angola since Sunday for a two-day working visit.
João Lourenço hopes that Italian small and medium-sized enterprises will invest in Angola and contribute to diversification of the national economy.
He expressed the availability of the Angolan Executive to welcome these small and medium Italian companies to come and invest in what they know in the Angolan economy".
Italy was the first Western European country to recognise the Independence of Angola on February 18, 1976.
The two countries established diplomatic relations on June 4, 1976.
While, the cooperation relations date back to 1977, after the countries signed a memorandum establishing the Bilateral Commission, the then Joint Commission for Cooperation.
Other legal instruments have followed, such as in the field of international defence and security, collaboration in humanitarian operations and support for peace, demining, and medical care.
Angola is Italy's third largest trading partner in sub-Saharan Africa.
In 2013 the trade between the countries reached 891 million Euros, 348 million of which resulted from Italian exports.
