Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

Prodigious Initiative by Mr Sudhir Nanavati, Lawyer of Supreme Court of India

GUJARAT, GUJARAT, INDIA, October 24, 2017 / -- On the Paths of Mahatma Gandhi with Swachh Bharat Abhiyan

Mr. Sudhir Nanavati, eminent lawyer of Supreme Court of India and a designated senior advocate at the High Court of Gujarat, is also an educationalist by passion. Recently, Mr. Nanavati was appointed as Brand Ambassador by then Chief Minister of Gujarat, Smt. Anandiben Patel for 'Swachh Gujarat Mission' under 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' - an initiative by Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi. Mr. Sudhir Nanavati, being the brand ambassador of the Gujarat Law Society, is taking care of this national mission.

Congratulating Hon'ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi on initiating such a gargantuan mission, Mr. Nanavati states that this vision cannot be achieved just by an individual person or the government alone. It is the moral and collective responsibility of the citizens of India to keep the country clean. Mr. Sudhir Nanavati opines that cleanliness is of two types: one is looking for a cure after the deed is done and another is prevention before the problem. Currently, we are in a phase of hunting for the cure as years of unhygienic living and attitude towards uncleanliness has been ingrained in the people. Once the citizens of India cure the country off its filth we can develop a routine for prevention of the problem. As cited by Mr. Sudhir Nanavati, there are multiple benefits of a clean country - in a clean environment the productivity of the people increases, thus, leading to better economic status of the country and its people. Everybody likes to live in a cleaner surroundings, it also helps in improving the overall health of the people as well.

He states that media plays a vital role in this mission. Collective images of a dirty country can lead to a positive change. There are times when images of public figures like leaders, actors, sportsperson etc. are depicted to show the momentum of the cleanliness drive, but a damaging caption to the positive image can also back-step the efforts. Mr. Nanavati is of the opinion that no effort goes unrewarded, but everything happens after repeated efforts. One must leave no stone unturned to clean their surroundings.

Under the leadership of Mr. Sudhir Nanavati, the students and staff members of more than 30 various educational institutes of Gujarat Law Society (GLS) were guided and encouraged to drive the mission of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Mr. Sudhir Nanavati led more than 4000+ staff and students members of GLS to spread awareness about the campaign. During this cleanliness drive Mr. Nanavati, the students and staff members of GLS and its various institutes collected more than 1 lac signed pledges for maintaining cleanliness. These 'Swachhta Patras' were collected over a time span of 3 months, in and around Ahmedabad. These Patras were presented to Smt. Anandiben Patel as a commitment by the GLS members to continue driving this mission forward. During this cleanliness awareness drive, the citizens who signed the Swachhta Patras, committed to voluntarily spend atleast 100 hours annually towards the cleanliness goal. GLS also adopted the Law garden road as 'My own street' and have undertaken the pledge to maintain their surroundings, city and country clean.

Overwhelmed with the unity displayed by the family of GLS, Shri Sudhir Nanavati showed his gratitude towards all the students and staff, present during the rally. He explained to the crowd present, how a vision by a Gujarati - Mahatma Gandhi, of a Swachh India is being undertaken by another Gujarati leader, Shri Narendra Modi - Prime Minister of India, as his mission. He reiterated the commitment by GLS to devote two hours a week towards the Swachh Abhiyan mission.

As the Brand Ambassador for the national mission, on behalf of GLS, he assured that by 2019, GLS would be considered to be at the forefront of this mission. Mr. Sudhir Nanavati has already premeditated the path for driving this mission. He remarked that during the all India Principal Meet to be held at GLS in Ahmedabad, one day will be dedicated towards planning and implementing the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. He states that the Principals are the current leaders of the future generation of our country. By guiding and training the staff and students of their colleges to undertake the cleanliness pledge the principals of various colleges can make a marked difference. If they all take up the initiative to drive this mission the prevention step will be taken to cure the country of malady.
