School Specialty Collaborates with Susan Gladden Interiors to Showcase “ENGAGE” Learning Environment at EDspaces 2017

Company helps advance 21st century educational spaces with innovative furnishings, supplies and equipment that support student success

GREENVILLE, Wis., Oct. 18, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- School Specialty, Inc. (OTCQB:SCOO) (“School Specialty”, “SSI” or “the Company”), a leading distributor of supplies, furniture and both curriculum and supplemental learning resources to the education, healthcare and other marketplaces, is excited to announce the Company has teamed-up with Susan Gladden Interiors, a highly-experienced commercial interior design firm, to demonstrate what a modern, 21st century learning environment looks like at the Education Market Association’s 2017 EDspaces conference. Attendees are invited to explore the exhibit hall classroom #2304 where breakout sessions will be held from October 25-27 at the Kansas City Convention & Entertainment Facilities in Missouri.

This year’s EDspaces will display unique learning environments created by today’s leading architects and designers. The showcase led by Susan Gladden Interiors is titled “ENGAGE” and will feature a collaborative learning space which incorporates elements of nature and engages all five senses, contributing to students’ increased creativity, focus and memory. The model room is grounded by a spiral-shaped herb garden with low, soft seating that encourages community. A variety of flexible furniture options radiate from this center, supporting individual, small, or large group learning. Technology is used to enhance rather than overpower learning, encouraging the teacher to move freely and engage with students throughout the classroom.

“We couldn’t be more excited to collaborate with the Susan Gladden Interiors team to bring to light the tremendous gains being made in designing 21st century spaces which inspire educational experiences that build the knowledge and skills of all learners,” stated Bryan Shark, Vice President of Sales – Furniture and Equipment at School Specialty. “The ENGAGE exhibition will show a range of innovative furnishings from School Specialty, including mobile and technology-enabled furniture items which can be easily configured to support diverse teaching and learning styles, as well as promote a comfortable and secure setting. We invite attendees to visit and share their views.”

ENGAGE takes into careful consideration that students are as complex and unique as they are diverse. The most effective learning spaces address the individual as well as the learner. Shark continued, “This is not only a showcase, it is a real-world representation of the projects that schools nationwide are undertaking to ensure their learning environments are designed and equipped to prepare students with the skills they require for a successful future. School Specialty remains committed to working with our partners to bring the necessary capabilities to classrooms so that every student has the opportunity to reach his or her potential.”

EDspaces is the gathering place for architects, dealers, pre-K-12, colleges and universities, independent manufacturers, exhibitors, and corporations to learn about trends, and experience the latest products and services to enhance student learning. The event features CEU-accredited education – from experts both on and off the exhibit floor – that focuses on forward-thinking, sustainable design and the changing impact on 21st century learning environments. Leaders and experts of every discipline involved in facility planning, maintenance, and construction attend EDspaces to exchange ideas and strategies for 21st century learning. Find out more at http://www.ed-spaces.com.
