Cooper City Veterinarian's Office Assists Local Pets after Irma

COOPER CITY, Fla., Sept. 29, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, Embassy Lakes Animal Hospital is providing medical treatment, emergency care, and wellness exams to ensure the health and well-being of pets traumatized or possibly injured by the storm. Our Cooper City veterinarian will also check for the presence of a microchip to reunite lost pets and their families and to avoid euthanasia, where possible.

"At Embassy Lakes Animal Hospital, we strive to provide the best care possible in any circumstance," said Dr. Daniel Levin, head veterinarian for the Cooper City office. "During this time of recovery and rebuilding, we hope to encourage others to lend a hand while we help the pets that have been affected by Hurricane Irma. Our goal is to work with volunteers and emergency workers in providing the best care possible for the animals that can't help themselves."

To ensure the safety and health of pets in future hurricanes, Embassy Lakes Animal Hospital has provided some helpful tips: when planning an evacuation, look for animal-friendly shelters so as not to be turned away upon arrival. Before the storm, ask the veterinarian for a 14-day supply of the pet's prescription medication. Buy extra slip leashes in advance of the storm; slip leashes are harder for scared pets to escape and an extra one will come in handy should the first get lost or should someone else need one, too. In packing for the evacuation, take enough pet food and water for a week to ensure an adequate supply. Finally, use a pet carrier, even if the animal is used to riding in the car without one. The carrier can make pets feel safer while helping to confine the animal to maintain a safe driving environment.

Those in need of veterinary services for a stray or a family pet can call the Cooper City office at (954) 432-5811 to schedule an appointment. The office is located at 2661 N. Hiatus Road in Cooper City, Fl.  33026 where Dr. Levin and his staff can provide the following services: wellness exams, puppy and kitten care, dermatology, senior pet care, vaccinations, dental care, spaying/neutering, tags, microchipping, and diet and nutrition aid.
