Weatherby Healthcare Names Winners of Locum Tenens of the Year Award

Physicians awarded for their passion for locum tenens, quality care and service to the community

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL, Aug. 17, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Weatherby Healthcare, one of the nation’s largest providers of locum tenens physician staffing, announced the winners of the 2017 Locum Tenens of the Year award.

Each year, approximately 40,000 locum tenens physicians provide healthcare to millions of patients across the country, often in rural and underserved communities that have a difficult time staffing full-time physicians. By hiring locum tenens, healthcare facilities ensure patients have access to much needed care.

“We created this award to recognize physicians whose work often goes unnoticed because of the temporary nature of their assignments,” says Weatherby Healthcare president Bill Heller. “These award winners exemplify the best characteristics of locum tenens – quality, compassion and caring.”

Physicians were nominated for the award by the Weatherby Healthcare consultants who work directly with doctors throughout their locum tenens assignments. Award winners were chosen by the company’s executive team based on the physician’s passion for locum tenens, the quality of care they provide and the service they offer in the community, either personally or professionally.

Here are this year’s winners.

Dr. Greg Carr, Psychiatry — Dr. Carr loves working in underserved communities. He has been working locum tenens since 2012, primarily at various hospitals in Arizona. The staff at these facilities regularly praise him for his willingness to help out, regardless of where he is assigned or what challenge he is faced with.

Dr. Simran Kalra, Pediatrics — Over the past five years, Dr. Kalra has worked locum tenens in Virginia, Maryland and New York, ensuring patients in rural areas receive quality care. Recently, when a hospital’s pediatric unit was at risk of being closed due to lack of physician coverage, Dr. Kalra stepped in at a moment’s notice to offer her services because she knew it was best for the patients.

Dr. Demetri Poulis, General Surgery — There is very little that is temporary about Dr. Poulis’ locum tenens work. In 2016, he provided healthcare facilities with nearly 250 days of coverage. He was willing to make 39 roundtrips to and from assignments because of his passion for his craft and the patients he serves.
