Prancing Ponies Foundation to Hold First All-Female Car Show at Monterey Car Week

August 16 fundraiser event follows successful European Ferrari Rally for Summer Leadership-Abroad Academy for promising college-bound girls

/EINPresswire.com/ -- SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwired - August 14, 2017) - On the heels of its first all-female Ferrari European fundraising rally from Milan to Monaco, the Prancing Ponies Foundation is set to hold yet another first -- an all-woman car show with a cause in iconic Carmel-By-The-Sea, California on Wednesday, August 16, 1pm to 5pm.

The event is the first time since the inception of The Monterey Car Week that women will have their own car show. It will showcase women-owned, eye-catching collection of rare, restored, and/or beautifully-maintained Classic, Muscle, Super, and Hyper cars. The open-to-public car show will have live music and free T-shirts to girls under 18-years-old. It will also honor "The Unique Ladies," the first all-women lowrider car club in the U.S. that challenged the male-dominated cultural phenomenon of low riding by using their vehicles as art-filled expressions of working class feminism to build their community, as well as their club. The Car Show will conclude with an award ceremony for the best owner/car presentation in each category, as well as one best-in-show winner that will be determined by the car show's distinguished judges.

Similar to the Ferrari Rally, the all-female car show is a fundraising event for the Prancing Ponies Foundation and its Leadership-Abroad Academy. It provides an opportunity for young girls to be inspired to pursue careers in the automotive/motorsports industry and be empowered to become future leaders by seeing other women car racers, enthusiasts, and industry executives. Through registration fees and sponsorships, the Foundation raises money for its summer Leadership-Abroad Academy, engaging underprivileged but promising young girls in cultural immersive activities that aim to develop their self-esteem, self-confidence, and leadership skills.

"We believe that you have to know how to lead yourself before you can lead others," said Chanterria McGilbra, Prancing Ponies Foundation Executive Director. "Through international travel experiences, we aim to build a strong sense of self and the confidence to take action towards their goals laying the foundation for our girls to become future leaders."

This year, the Foundation selected its first Leadership-Abroad Academy scholars. Four promising College-bound girls went to Paris, France for 7 weeks: Ixchel Q. Ramirez, Paige Bentum, Michelle Marcial, and Ugochi Egonu. See their profiles here.

"Through this car show, and other Prancing Ponies Foundation activities, we aim to raise funds to be able to send 10 girls next year in Italy," said Chanterria. "We are so excited to host this event and look forward to 'Creating Women Leaders One Girl at a Time'!"
